[Mythology of the Rig Veda]
The Rig Veda, the oldest Vedic text, created around 1500-900 BCE, does not contain any coherent mythology, but its actual authors, the sages (rishis, kavis), are thought to have composed their poetry based on some mythology that the Indo-Aryans had at the time. In particular, the Rig Veda suggests the existence of a mythology centered on Indra (Taishakuten), who holds the highest divine position, and in fact about a quarter of all hymns are dedicated to him.
