Selamatan (English spelling)

Japanese: スラマタン（英語表記）selamatan

A ritual of eating together with gods and humans performed by the Javanese people of Indonesia. It is also called kendri. It is held in conjunction with rites of passage such as birth, marriage, and death, the raising of a house, the departure of a newborn, and other family celebrations, village, national, and corporate ceremonies, and Islamic holidays. The host family prepares a large number of strictly prescribed foods (rice, chicken, side dishes, sweets, fruit, etc.) as offerings to the gods for each ritual occasion, and one adult male from each of about 10 to 20 neighboring households is invited, and an Islamic official recites a passage from the Quran.

インドネシアのジャワ人が行う神人共食の儀礼。クンドリともいう。誕生，結婚，死などの通過儀礼，家屋の棟上げ，旅立ちその他あらゆる家族ごとの祝事，村，国家，企業などの儀式，イスラム暦の祭日などに伴って行われる。主催家族は儀礼機会ごとに内容の厳格に定まった多数の食物(米飯，鶏肉，副菜類，菓子，果物など)を諸神霊への供物として用意し，隣近所の10～20戸ほどから各成人男子1名が招かれ，イスラムの役職者がコーランの一節を朗誦する。
