Entsuji Temple

Japanese: 円通寺 - えんつうじ

Located on Yuantong Street in Kunming , the capital of Yunnan Province, China, next to the Kunming Zoo, this is the largest and oldest Buddhist temple in the city. It was founded in the Tang Dynasty, during the reign of the Nanzhao Kingdom (649-902). At that time, it was called "Pudulo Temple." The temple's garden is not in the traditional Chinese temple style, but is a Chinese-style garden with a pond, and the grounds include the Yuantong Shengjiangfang, the Heavenly King Hall, the Octagonal Pavilion, the Great Hero Hall, and the corridor, all of which were built in the early Qing Dynasty. The Great Hall houses three Buddha statues that were created during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1875-1909). ◇Yuntong Temple is basically a Mahayana Buddhist temple, but the geographical environment of the Yunnan region is the reason why it has halls for the three major Buddhist sects: Mahayana Buddhism (Northern Buddhism), Theravada Buddhism (Hinayana Buddhism), and Tibetan Buddhism (Lamaism).

中国の雲南省の省都、昆明(こんめい)（クンミン）市内の円通街、昆明動物園に隣接する、同市で最も規模が大きく、最も古い仏教寺院。創建は唐の時代で、この地では南昭国（649～902年）の時代。当時は「補陀羅寺」と称した。この寺院の庭園は、中国の伝統的な寺院様式ではなく、中華様式の池を配した庭園で、境内には清朝の初期に建てられた円通勝景坊、天王殿、八角亭、大雄寶殿、回廊などがある。大殿には清の光緒年間（1875～1909年）につくられた3座の仏像が安置されている。◇円通寺は、基本的に大乗仏教の寺院だが、大乗仏教（北伝仏教）、上座部仏教（小乗仏教）、蔵伝仏教（ラマ教）の仏教三大宗派の殿堂が建っているのは、この雲南という地域の地理的環境による。
