1686‐1762 Chinese painter of the mid-Qing dynasty. His pen name was Zongyang. His pen names included Futang, Ao Daoren, Mutou Laozi, and Zhongyang. He was from Xinghua, Jiangsu Province. He was a judge of the Imperial Court in 1711, and became the magistrate of Teng County, Shandong Province. He was one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. He studied flower and bird painting under the court painter Jiang Tingxi, but was not accepted into the painting academy. After retiring from the government, he built and lived in the Fufu House on the southern outskirts of Yangzhou. He studied under Lin Liang of the early Ming Dynasty and specialized in flowers and trees with unrestrained brushwork. His representative works include Five Pine Trees (1747, Cleveland Museum of Art) and Spring Colors in the South of the City (1754, Shanghai Museum), among others.
