Kamouenai [village] - Kamouenai
A village in Furu District, Shiribeshi Subprefecture, southwest Hokkaido. Population 1,481 (1995). Located in the west of the Shakotan Peninsula, facing the Sea of ​​Japan. The Shakotan Mountains are close to the sea, and many parts of the coast are sea cliffs, and the village is designated as part of the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Coast Quasi-National Park as a scenic spot. Since 1751 (Horeki 1), fishing has been developed by site contractors as Furu (Furu) site, and the population exceeded 5,000 at the peak of herring fishing from the end of the Meiji period to the Taisho period, but herring fishing declined with the start of the Showa period and the village's prosperity began to decline.

北海道南西部,後志(しりべし)支庁古宇郡の村。人口1481(1995)。積丹(しやこたん)半島の西部に位置し日本海に臨む。積丹山地が海にせまり,海岸は海食崖の続く部分が多く,景勝地としてニセコ積丹小樽海岸国定公園の一部に指定されている。1751年(宝暦1)以来,フルウ(古宇)場所として場所請負人によって漁業開発が行われ,ニシン漁の最盛期であった明治末から大正にかけては人口も5000を超えたことがあったが,昭和に入ってニシン漁は衰退し村勢は退潮に向かった。
