Isoba - soba noodles

...The Ama use glasses and weights when diving, but often use ropes hung from the boat to surface quickly. The Ama fish in groups, such as families or groups, but each isoba (collection site) is kept secret from others and called Obe, Neya, Jomba, etc., and other Ama refrain from approaching. There are villages in various parts of Western Japan where it is said that the Ama once traveled widely in search of isoba and then settled there.
