Chinese scholar and politician. A senior member of the Chinese Nationalist Party. A native of Hebei Province, he studied in France in the late Qing Dynasty. He became an anarchist and joined the revolutionary movement. After the establishment of the Republic of China, he became a professor at Peking University and president of the Chinese University of Law, and was a leading figure in the education world. He also held important positions in the Nationalist Party and became a director of the Presidential Office.
