A Korean Goryeo scholar and poet. His pen name was Meiso and his pen name was Somyongjae. He was from Incheon. In his youth, he became a monk to avoid the rebellions of military ministers such as Jeong Jung-bu, but he returned to secular life and entered the profession in 1180. He was influenced by Song Dynasty poetics and admired the poetic styles of Su Shi (Dongpo) and Huang Tingjian (Sangak). He wrote the "Yintaishu" and "Somyongjaeshu," and in particular, the three volumes of "Pakanshu" (Collection of Pogans) were the first collections of poetry and stories in Korea that also served as poetry critiques, along with Choi Ja's "Bokanshu," and became the origin of the poetics that flourished during the Joseon Dynasty.
