Eccentricity - Rishinritsu

〘Noun〙 One of the constants of a conic section. When determining the locus of points where the ratio of the distance from a fixed point to a fixed line is constant, this ratio is called the eccentricity of the locus. If the eccentricity is less than one, the locus is an ellipse, if it is equal to one, it is a parabola, and if it is greater than one, it is a hyperbola. 〘名〙 円錐曲線のもつ定数の一つ。定点と定直線からの距離の比が一定である点の軌跡を求めるとき、この比の値をその軌跡の離心率という。離心率が一より小さければ軌跡は楕円、一に等しければ放物線、一より大きければ双曲線になる。〔数学ニ用ヰル辞ノ英和対訳字書（1889）〕
