A branch of the Hino family, the Northern branch of the Fujiwara clan. Its founder was Sukeaki, the son of Hino Toshimitsu, the Gon Dainagon, who lived in the late Kamakura period. His descendants made writing their profession. They held the highest official rank of First Rank Gon Dainagon. In the Meiji period, they became counts. 藤原氏北家,日野家の支流。鎌倉時代末期,権大納言日野俊光の子資明を祖とする。子孫は文筆をもって家業とした。一位権大納言を極官位とする。明治にいたって伯爵。支族に武者小路,町尻などの家がある。
