The central area of Kanra Town, Kanra County, Gunma Prefecture. Formerly Obata Town. During the Edo period, it was a jin'ya town for the Oda and Matsudaira clans, lords of the Obata domain with 20,000 koku of rice. Place names such as Jōmachi, Jōnan, and Goten remain. There is a feudal lord's garden, Rakuzan-en (a nationally designated place of scenic beauty), and samurai residences within the jin'ya. There is also Ogawazeki, one of the "100 Famous Waters of Japan." [Editorial Department] [Reference] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
