Year of death: September 7, 8th year of the Oei period (October 14, 1401) Year of birth: Bunwa 1/Shohei 7 (1352) A shugo daimyo during the Nanboku-cho and Muromachi periods. His posthumous name was Jyotaka. He was the son of Takahide and the 7th head of the Kyogoku clan. After Rokkaku Ujiyori, the heir to the Sasaki clan, died in 1370, Takanobu was appointed shugo of Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture) as the guardian of his eldest son, Kamejumaru (Rokkaku Mitsutaka). However, he was soon driven out of the Rokkaku clan and became head of the Kyogoku clan. It is believed that the Kōryaku Coup (1379) involving his father Takahide had a major influence on this series of problems with the family headship. Takanobu was made shugo of Izumo, Oki, Hida, and Iwami provinces, and was also appointed as a member of the Hyojōshū and head of the Samurai Dōkoro, giving him authority within the shogunate. The foundation of the Kyogoku clan as a powerful shugo was built by three generations: his grandfather Doyō, his father Takahide, and Takanobu. <References> Hideo Uno, "On the Kyogoku clan, the guardian clan during the period of the Northern and Southern Courts," Vol. 1 (Shiho, No. 14) (Hideo Uno) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
