A Taoist priest from the Liu Song dynasty in China. His pen name was Yuande and his pen name was Jianzhe Sensei. He initially built and lived in the Jianzhe Mansion at the southern foot of Mount Lu, but was later invited by Emperor Ming to live in the Chongxu Mansion in Jiankang. He collected and organized Taoist scriptures, established a classification system for the "Three Caves," and based on that he compiled the oldest Taoist collection of calligraphy, the "Catalogue of the Three Caves Scriptures." He also established Taoist rituals and worked to establish Taoist doctrine. He is famous, along with Huiyuan and Tao Yuanming, for the story of the "Three Smiles at the Tiger Creek," but this is not historical fact. [Mugiya Kunio]

中国，劉宋時代の道士。字は元徳，号は簡寂先生。初め廬山南麓に簡寂館を建てて住したが，のちに明帝に招かれて建康の崇虚館に住し，道教経典の収集整理を行って〈三洞〉の分類法を確立し，それに基づいて最古の道書目《三洞経書目録》を編んだ。また，道教の儀軌を制定して道教教理の確立に努めた。慧遠，陶淵明と並んで〈虎渓三笑〉の故事でも有名であるが，これは史実ではない。【麦谷邦夫】
