"Ode to the Epang Palace"

…He was a Jinshi (official scholar) in the second year of the Taihe era (828), and served as governor of various provinces, eventually becoming a Zhongshu Sheren. He is often considered a typical example of a man of refined talent, due to his seven-character quatrain, “Sent to Huai,” which sings, “After ten years, I wake up from my dream of Yangzhou, and I have won the name of the Blue Chamber.” However, his sharp understanding of reality, which reflects his rigid political stance, runs through many of his works, including “Francois de Epang Palace.” He also showed an interest in military science, and left behind annotations on “The Art of War.” …
