Yangmei Palace - Yamamomo Palace

Japanese:
Yangmei Palace - Yamamomo Palace
A villa within Heijo Palace appears in the Shoku Nihongi. It appears in the book about five times during the reign of Emperor Kōnin, starting with the third year of the Hōki era (772). An article from September of the eighth year of the Hōki era states that long ago Fujiwara no Nakamaro built a mansion (Tamuradai) to the south of Youbai Palace and built a high tower overlooking the Imperial Palace, and from this location, Heijo Palace's eastern courtyard is deemed appropriate. An article from June of the same year also states that "lotus flowers grow in the pond south of Youbai Palace," which corresponds well with the discovery of a large garden and pond during excavations of the eastern courtyard of Heijo Palace.
