Quadratic residue

If p is a prime number other than 2, and the congruence equation x 2 ≡ a (mod p ) has a solution, then the integer a is called a quadratic remainder modulo p . It is known that a is a quadratic remainder modulo p if and only if a ( p -1)/2 ≡1(mod p ).
