Rio Bravo

Rio Bravo
An American film produced in 1959. This is the second western film after Red River (1948) directed by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne. It is called the Rio Bravo Trilogy along with other westerns with similar plots and character placements by the same duo, El Dorado (1966) and Rio Lobo (1970). According to Will Wright's Six-Shooter and Society (1975), in contrast to the classic plot westerns that depicted the exploits of a hero who protects a pioneer community from evil, John Ford's Stagecoach (1939) was the beginning of the revenge theme western, depicting a hero who lives for his own obsession, and then Rio Bravo was the western that opened up the professional theme, focusing on the pride, responsibility, and skill of professional gunfighters, and thus changed the course of westerns after talkies.
