Born: April 15, 1856, Athens [Died] March 31, 1910. French poet from Paris. His real name was Yannis Papadiamantopoulos. Born into a noble Greek family, he moved to France in 1867 and later became a naturalized citizen. He published the poetry collections Les Syrtes (1884) and Le Pèlerin passionné (1891), among others, and participated in the Symbolist movement. In 1886 he founded the magazine Le Symboliste, and in the same year published the Symbolist Manifesto in Le Figaro, but he eventually left the movement and in 1891, together with Maurras, formed the école romane, which aimed to return to ancient traditions. However, with the exception of his own Stances (1899-1901), no noteworthy works came from this group.
