Rampant caries

Japanese: ランパントカリエス（英語表記）rampant caries

This is one of the terms used to describe the condition of tooth decay (technically known as dental caries), which occurs suddenly and affects many teeth at the same time, with the cavity (cavity) progressing rapidly deeper and spreading over a wide area. As a result, the lower front teeth, which are usually less susceptible to cavities, can also be affected, and the dental pulp is also prone to infection. Originally, it was the name given to cavities in permanent teeth, and was seen in the relatively clean mouths of people in their late teens when all their permanent teeth have grown in; it is more common in girls, and is generally more likely to be seen in thin children.

いわゆる虫歯(専門的には齲食（うしよく）という)の罹患状態を表す用語の一つで，虫歯が突然に発現し，しかも多数の歯が同時に罹患するとともに，齲窩（うか）(虫歯の穴)が急速に深部へ進行しかつ広範囲に広がる型の虫歯をいう。したがってふつう虫歯にかかりにくい下あごの前歯も罹患するし，歯髄も感染しやすい。元来は永久歯の虫歯に対する名称で，永久歯がはえそろった10歳代後半の比較的きれいな口の中でみられ，女児に多く，一般にやせ型の子にみられやすいとされている。
