...By taking advantage of this fact, it is possible to determine a person's type by examining what antibodies are contained in the plasma. In actual ABO blood type testing, the presence or absence of antigens is examined in red blood cells (commonly known as the front test), and then the presence or absence of antibodies is examined in the plasma (back test). The results of both tests are compared to determine the final type. The test uses the hemagglutination reaction.
