1883‐1955 Spanish philosopher. His family had many people involved in publishing, so much so that he was described as "born on a rotary press." His father, Ortega y Munilla (1856-1922), was also a famous author and journalist. He himself began writing quite early, almost overlapping with the work of the "Generation of '98," a generation earlier, such as Unamuno. After graduating from the University of Madrid, he went to Germany, where he completed his philosophical studies under the Neo-Kantian school, including Henri Cohen, and returned to Spain in 1910, becoming a professor of metaphysics at the University of Madrid.
