This is an archaeological site from the Jomon to Yayoi periods located on the natural levee on the north bank of the Nagasaki River in Masaka, Ichisako Town, Kurihara County, Miyagi Prefecture. In 1964, a large number of artifacts were unearthed during a preliminary survey for the construction of a gymnasium at Ichisako Elementary School, and in 1965, the Tohoku University Archaeology Laboratory conducted an excavation survey. As a result, it was found that the artifact-bearing layer reached 3m below the surface, and a large number of pottery pieces from the middle to late Jomon period (layers VII to IV) to the middle Yayoi period (layer III) were unearthed. In particular, below layer V is a peat layer with a thick accumulation of walnut shells, and a large number of plant-based artifacts such as lacquerware, combs, bracelets, earrings, and string-like products were discovered, attracting the attention of the academic community.
