This refers to a language training room that uses educational equipment. It is usually abbreviated as LL. It was developed in the United States during World War II, mainly for foreign language learning in the military. For a long time, foreign language education in Japan was centered on reading and interpretation, and little emphasis was placed on training in listening and speaking. However, after the war, exchanges with the international world became more active, and the demand for learning a foreign language that could actually be spoken increased. As the performance of equipment such as tape recorders improved dramatically, LL became widely used in schools and other places, especially from the 1960s onwards.
