Umm al-Qaywayn

Japanese: ウンム･アルカイワイン（英語表記）Umm al‐Qaywayn

It occupies the northern part of the United Arab Emirates and is one of the member states of the federation. It is also written as Umm al-Qaiwain or Umm Rghwain. In English, it is called Umm al-Qaiwain. It has an area of 777 ^km2 and a population of 35,000 (1996). Its capital is Umm al-Qaiwain. The country's name means "mother of strength." It was once a good natural harbor and was probably quite prosperous, but now it has the smallest population of the federation and the smallest number of people entering and leaving the country. Financially, it is heavily dependent on Abu Dhabi.

アラブ首長国連邦の北部を占める，同連邦構成国の一つ。ウンム･アルガイワイン，ウンムルグワインなどとも表記する。英語ではUmm al‐Qaiwainとも。面積777km²，人口3万5000(1996)。主都はウンム･アルカイワイン。国名は〈力の母〉という意味をもつ。かつては天然の良港で，かなり繁栄したものと思われるが，現在では連邦中もっとも人口が少なく，出入国の人数も少ない。財政的にはアブ･ダビーに大きく依存している。
