An Islamic dynasty in Yemen (1230-1453). Rasul means messenger, and the dynasty was founded by a Turk sent to Yemen as an emissary of the Abbasid Caliphate. Yemen had been under the control of the Ayyubid dynasty of Egypt since 1174, but the dynasty was founded by expelling the army. Since the mountainous region was traditionally a region where the Zaydi sect had a strong influence, the dynasty initially based itself on the coastal region, and gradually extended its influence to the mountainous region, Hadramaut, and Hejaz, and at one time even controlled Mecca. The dynasty flourished as a transit point for trade between China, India, and the Mediterranean region, but in the 15th century, its influence declined due to civil wars, and it eventually collapsed.
