Raspberry - Raspberry (English spelling)

A general term for several species of Rubus in the family Rosaceae (APG classification: Rosaceae). It mainly includes R. idaeus L. and R. strigosus Michx., as well as R. occidentalis L. and the red and purple raspberries that emerged as hybrids of these. Most are distributed in Europe and North America and are cultivated. The stems are generally upright, with five sepals and five petals, and bloom in spring. The fruits ripen in summer and come in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, red, and purple, and are aggregate fruits that separate from the receptacle when ripe. The receptacle is dry and hard and remains on the disk. In addition to being eaten raw, the raspberry scent is used in liqueurs, pies, jams, preserves, ice cream, juice, etc. In Japan, species such as Rubus idaeus (a variety of Rubus idaeus) grow wild, and cultivated species have also been introduced, but they have not become widespread because the numerous hard seeds inside the fruit are not compatible with the diet.

バラ科（APG分類：バラ科）キイチゴ属Rubus数種の総称。イダエウスR. idaeus L.、ストリゴサスR. strigosus Michx.を主とし、それらにオクシデンタリスR. occidentalis L.を加え、さらにそれらの雑種から現れた赤色果系red raspberryと紫色果系purple raspberryなどをも包含する。多くはヨーロッパおよび北アメリカに分布し、栽培される。茎条はおおむね直立性、萼片(がくへん)5、花弁5からなり、春開く。果実は夏に熟し、白、黄、紅、紫色など変異があり、集合果で、熟すと花托(かたく)から分離する。花托は乾硬質で花盤に残り、生食のほか、キイチゴ香を利用し、リキュール、パイ、ジャム、プリザーブ、アイスクリーム、ジュースなどに用いる。日本ではエゾキイチゴ（イダエウスの変種）などが野生し、また栽培種の導入もみたが、果実の中の堅い多数の種子が食生活になじまないため、普及していない。
