Senryu (Japanese senryu) writer. His real name was Koichi. His other names were Akiken and Shibano Ryusen. He was born in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 1903 (Meiji 36), he joined the newspaper Nihon, where he was in charge of the senryu column and helped to spark the popularity of topical senryu, but was criticized by Sakai Kuraki. Two years later, he organized the Ryusonji Senryu Club and published the journal Senryu (later renamed Taisho Senryu and then Senryujin), promoting the innovation of senryu and contributing to the establishment of senryu as a form of literature.
