Japanese: ラージャスターン[州]（英語表記）Rājasthān

A state in northwestern India. It has an area of 342,000 km2 and a population of 44.01 million (1991). Its capital is Jaipur. The Aravalli mountain range runs from southwest to northeast through the center of the state, dividing it into a dry plain area in the northwest where the Thar Desert spreads, and a slightly humid hilly area at an altitude of 300 to 600 meters in the southeast, which is the foreland of the Deccan Plateau. The two states also show a contrast in land use, with livestock farming (camels, goats, sheep) in the northwest and agriculture (miscellaneous grains, cotton, wheat) in the southeast.

インド北西部の州。面積34万2000km2，人口4401万(1991)。州都はジャイプル。ほぼ中央部を南西から北東に走るアラバリ(アラーワリー)山脈を境にして，北西部はタール砂漠の広がる乾燥した平原地帯，南東部はデカン高原の前山部にあたる標高300～600mのやや湿潤な丘陵地帯となっている。両者は，土地利用の上でも，北西部の牧畜(ラクダ，ヤギ，羊)に対し南東部の農業(雑穀，綿，小麦)という対照性を示す。
