Mount Ogusu

Located almost in the center of Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, it is the highest peak on the Miura Peninsula. It is 241 meters above sea level. It is the main peak of the ridge mountain range (Okunusan Mountains) that runs northwest-southeast from the center of the Miura Peninsula, slightly west of the center. The entire mountain is covered in green secondary forests of Castanopsis sieboldii, Quercus acutissima, and Quercus serrata, and is also home to many wild birds. The summit is unobstructed by Japanese nut and shrubs, and the view is vast, with the Miura Peninsula, Uraga Channel, Sagami Bay, and the Boso and Izu Peninsulas, the Izu Islands, Hakone, Fuji, Tanzawa, and Mt. Daisen in the distance. There are nature trails along the ridgeline, and many people take a day trip from the Keihin area to Anjinzuka, Kinugasa Castle ruins, Jorakuji Temple, etc. It can be reached by hiking trails from either Anjinzuka Station on the Keihin Kyuko Railway or Kinugasa Station on the JR Yokosuka Line, by car from Ashina along National Route 134, or by hiking trails from Kikoba in Hayama Town.

神奈川県横須賀市(よこすかし)のほぼ中央部にあり、三浦半島の最高峰。標高241メートル。三浦半島の中央からやや西寄りを北西―南東方向に走る地塁性山地（大楠山地）の主峰で、全山がスダジイ、クヌギ、コナラなどの二次林の緑一色に覆われ、野鳥も群棲(ぐんせい)している。頂上はカヤと低木で遮るものがなく、近くは三浦半島、浦賀(うらが)水道、相模(さがみ)湾、遠くは房総(ぼうそう)・伊豆両半島、伊豆諸島、箱根(はこね)、富士、丹沢、大山などが視界に入り展望は広大。稜線(りょうせん)には自然歩道が開かれ、按針塚(あんじんづか)、衣笠城跡(きぬがさじょうせき)、浄楽寺(じょうらくじ)などをあわせて京浜からの日帰り行楽コースとして訪れる者が多い。京浜急行電鉄安針塚(あんじんづか)、JR横須賀線衣笠両駅から登山路をたどり、また国道134号に沿う芦名(あしな)から車で、葉山町木古庭(きこば)からハイキング道で達せられる。
