Mount Hakusan

Mount Hakusan
A volcano that stands on the border between Ishikawa and Gifu prefectures. It is an active volcano that is constantly under observation. It is the center of the Ryohaku mountain range. On top of the Mesozoic bedrock at a depth of about 2000m, Gozenmine (2702m), Oonamimine (2684m), and Kengamine (2677m) erupted, and Hakusan is the collective name for these. It is sometimes called the Five Peaks of Hakusan, including Betsuyama and Sannomine to the south. There are crater lakes such as Senjagaike and Midorigaike at the summit, and Midagahara formed by lava to the south. It is surrounded by old volcanoes such as Dainichigatake and Kyogatake, which straddle the three prefectures of Ishikawa, Fukui, and Gifu, as well as Dainichiyama and Tomuroyama, which are from the same era. Hakusan is said to have been the last of the volcanic formations in the Hakusan volcanic system. It is said to have been founded by the monk Taicho in the Nara period, and is known as a sacred mountain site along with Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tateyama. Pilgrimage routes have been opened to attract worshippers from Kaga, Echizen, and Mino. It also appears in poetry as "Echigo no Shirayama." Since the Meiji period, it has been the property of Hakusan Hime Shrine, and an inner shrine is located at the summit. The mountainside is rich in Mesozoic plant fossils and silicified wood, and it has been designated a national natural monument as a "silicified wood producing area in the Tedori River basin." There are many hot springs, and the Iwama Fountain Towers, a national special natural monument, are located upstream of the Ozoe River, a tributary of the Tedori River. Asiatic black bears, Japanese serows, Japanese macaques, golden eagles, and ptarmigans live here, and there are natural beech forests, black lily colonies, and a variety of alpine plants named after Hakusan. It belongs to Hakusan National Park.

Hakusan

A former town area in central Tsu City, central Mie Prefecture. It is located at the southeastern foot of the Nunobiki Mountains. In 1955, Ieki Town and the four villages of Kawaguchi, Omi, Yamato, and Yatsuyama merged to form Hakusan Town. In 2006, it merged with two cities, five towns, and two villages - Tsu City, Hisai City, Kawage Town, Geino Town, Misato Village, Ano Town, Karasu Town, Ichishi Town, and Misugi Village - to form Tsu City. The town's name comes from the local deity, Hakusan Shrine. Most of the area is mountainous, but the flat land in the middle reaches of the Kumozu River is a producer of sake rice called Ichishi rice. Beef cattle are also raised here. Ieki, the central area, is the entrance to the Ieki Line, a valley upstream of the Kumozu River. There are Shiroyamahime Shrine, Joganji Temple (which has the Amitabha Buddha statue, a national important cultural property), and Jofukuji Temple (which has the wooden standing Thousand-Armed Kannon statue, a national important cultural property). There are many golf courses in the eastern part of the prefecture, and the Aoyama Plateau in the northwest is home to villas and the Nike Air Base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The entire area is part of the Muro-Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park.

Hakusan

This educational and residential area is located in the center of Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. It occupies the Hakusan Plateau, which is part of the Yamate Plateau, and was the site of a samurai residence during the Edo period. The site of the Koishikawa Botanical Garden, a medicinal herb garden of the Edo Shogunate, is now the Koishikawa Botanical Garden, and thousands of species of plants are collected on the vast grounds. Other attractions include Toyo University and Hakusan Shrine, from which the area takes its name. Hakusan Station on the Toei Mita Line is located here.
