Korean filmmaker. His pen name was Chunsa, and he was born in Hoiryeong, South Hamgyong Province. Since appearing in The Caged Bird in 1926, he has worked in many areas of the film industry, including as an actor, scriptwriter, producer, and director, and has won great popularity among the masses. In 1927, he established Na Un-gyu Productions, the first film production company run by a Korean. His most famous work, Arirang (1926), is a work that symbolically alludes to the spirit of resistance of the Korean people, and he wrote the script, starred in it, and even essentially directed it. 朝鮮の映画人。号は春史，咸鏡南道会寧の生れ。1926年《かごの鳥》に出演して以来，俳優，シナリオライター，プロデューサー，監督と，映画界の各方面にわたって活躍し大衆の人気を博した。27年には朝鮮人経営による最初の映画製作会社〈羅雲奎プロダクション〉を設立した。代表作《アリラン》(1926)は朝鮮民衆の抵抗精神を象徴的に暗示した作品で，彼みずからシナリオを書き，出演し，実質的には監督までしている。【大村益夫】
