Jean Fournet

French conductor. He studied flute and conducting at the Paris Conservatoire. He made his debut at the Opera House in his hometown of Rouen. He was the principal conductor of the Orchestre National de Radio France from 1941, and music director of the Opéra Comique in Paris from 1944 to 1957. He first came to Japan in 1958, and conducted the Japanese premiere of Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande." He worked mainly in the Netherlands in the 1960s, and returned to Japan in 1973 to become the first music director of the newly established Orchestre d'Île-de-France, a position he held until 1982. He showed a unique style, particularly in French music.

フランスの指揮者。パリ音楽院でフルートと指揮を学ぶ。生地ルーアンの歌劇場でデビュー。1941年からフランス国立放送管弦楽団常任指揮者、44～57年パリのオペラ・コミック座音楽監督。58年（昭和33）初来日し、ドビュッシーの『ペレアスとメリザンド』の日本初演を指揮。60年代は主としてオランダで活動、73年帰国して新設のイル・ド・フランス管弦楽団初代音楽監督となり、82年まで務めた。とくにフランス音楽に独自の境地を示す。
