Laurentiis

Japanese: ラウレンティス
Laurentiis
Italian film producer. Born in Naples. One of the producers who supported "Neorealism," he was internationally known as "the king of Italian cinema." Later, he entered the American film industry and produced many masterpieces. After studying at the Experimental Cinematography Center in Rome and serving in the military during World War II, he produced "Bitter Rice" (1948, directed by De Santis), which became an international hit. In 1950, he founded a production company with Carlo Ponti and produced films by Roberto Rossellini, Federico Fellini, and others. As the Italian film industry faced a serious crisis, he moved to the United States in 1973 and began working there as an independent producer on an equal footing with the major companies. Believing that "film is about the story, not the stars," he worked on many entertainment masterpieces, including those directed by Sidney Lumet and Sydney Pollack. His first wife was the actress Silvana Mangano.
