A type of fire starter, it refers to a stone used to start a fire. A hard, uniform stone with a sharp edge at the split is suitable, and flint and other stones rich in silica have been used. In petrology, flint refers to flint. The origins of flint are mentioned in the Hitachi no Kuni Fudoki and other sources, but in the early modern period, flint from Kuramayama in Kyoto and Yoronotaki in Mino were famous, and those from Kuramayama had a unique sales method called "fugooroshi." In the past, flints were used by striking them against each other, but later they came to be used to start a fire by striking them against a flint or a flint sickle, which was a piece of wood of a suitable size with a piece of steel set inside.
