Vesalius, a professor at the University of Padua, dissected a human body with his own hands, corrected about 200 errors made by Galen, and published “The Structure of the Human Body” (1543), which included detailed illustrations by the painter Giovanni da Carcar, a student of Titian. This work, abbreviated to “Fabrica,” marked the beginning of modern anatomy and was a major work that had a long-lasting influence on later generations. …
