The god of light in Norse mythology. The son of Odin and Frigg, he was the most beautiful god among the Asa gods. He was Odin's beloved son, but he died a tragic death at the hands of his blind brother Höðr due to the evil god Loki's wicked schemes. He was wise and kind, spreading joy and light wherever he went, and was loved by everyone, but his death began with an ominous dream that he would die. Frigg and the other gods did everything they could to protect Balder, but he was finally defeated by Loki's wicked schemes and sent to the underworld ruled by Hel. In response to Frigg's request, Hel promised to return Balder to Asgard if everyone in the world would mourn his death, but once again, he stayed with Hel because of Loki. However, after Ragnarok, he is resurrected with Höðr and joins the ranks of the gods who rule the new world.
