Geodetic reference system

To express the size and shape of the Earth, its gravitational field, and so on, geodesy uses the Earth's equatorial radius, flattening, and several other basic geodetic constants. The geodetic constants must be close to the true values, but at the same time, they must be determined so as not to contradict each other. From this standpoint, so that geodesy research in countries around the world can be conducted on a common basis, the International Geodesy Association defines the geodetic constants that are considered to be the most accurate at any given time, and the positional relationship between the Earth's ellipsoid and the actual position of the Earth that is determined by them.

地球の大きさや形，その重力場などを表現するために，測地学では，地球の赤道半径や扁平率，その他いくつかの基本的な測地定数を使用する。測地定数は真実の値に近いものでなければならないが，同時に，相互に矛盾のないように決めたものでなければならない。世界各国の測地学が共通の基盤に立って研究できるように，このような立場から，国際測地学協会が，そのときもっとも正確と思われる測地定数と，それによって決まる地球楕円体と現実の地球の位置関係を定めている。
