Japanese: 米子[市] - よなご

A city facing Lake Nakaumi in the west of Tottori Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1927. It occupies the lower reaches of the Hino and Sada rivers and the southern half of the Yumigahama sand spit. The city center was originally a small fishing village called Kamo, and after Nakamura Kazutada built Yonago Castle in 1601, it developed into a castle town and flourished as a distribution center for iron and lumber from Hino and cotton from Yumigahama. In 1967, the Nakaumi coastal area was designated a new industrial city, and factories producing electrical machinery, paper, tobacco, and other products were established here. The San'in Main Line and Yonago Expressway pass through the city, and the Sakai Line and Hakubi Line branch off here. It is the base for tourism to Mt. Daisen, and is home to Kaike Onsen, where triathlons are held. In 2005, Lake Nakaumi became a Ramsar Convention registered wetland. In March 2005, Yodoe Town in Saihaku District was incorporated. 132.42 ^{km 2} . 148,271 people (2010).

鳥取県西部，中海に面する市。1927年市制。日野川・佐陀(さだ)川下流域と弓ヶ浜砂嘴(さし)南半部を占める。中心市街はもと加茂と呼ばれた小漁村で，1601年中村一忠が米子城を築いて以後城下町として発展し，日野の鉄や木材，弓ヶ浜の木綿の集散地として栄えた。1967年中海臨海地区が新産業都市に指定され，電気機械，製紙，タバコ製造などの工場が立地する。山陰本線，米子自動車道が通じ，境線，伯備線が分岐する。大山(だいせん)観光の基地で皆生(かいけ)温泉があり，トライアスロン大会が行われる。2005年に中海がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2005年３月西伯郡淀江町を編入。132.42km²。14万8271人（2010）。
