Classes for children with disabilities

Japanese: 障害児学級 - しょうがいじがっきゅう

Under the School Education Act, it is considered a special class. A special class set up in an elementary or junior high school to provide an appropriate education for children with physical or mental disabilities. It is aimed at children and students with mental retardation, physical disabilities, physical weakness, weak eyesight, hearing loss, and speech disorders. It is stipulated in the School Education Act. The establishment of classes for disabled children is not uniform across the country. 学校教育法では特殊学級とする。心身に障害のある子どもに応じた教育を施すため小・中学校等に特設する学級。精神発達遅滞，肢体不自由，身体虚弱，弱視，難聴，言語障害をもつ児童・生徒等が対象。学校教育法に規定がある。障害児学級の設置形態は全国一様ではなく，たとえば言語障害児が教科学習は通常の学級で行い，言語障害の治療は障害児学級で行うというような通級制をとっている学校もある。→障害児教育
