〘Noun〙① The character "大" (big). Also, something that is shaped like the character "大". おお‐あざ おほ‥【大字】

〘名〙 市町村内の行政区画の一つ。小字(こあざ)を含む比較的広い地域。昔、町、村の名を持っていた土地で、明治初年の市町村制施行により、市町村制の区画の下にはいったもの。
