Yo-jou ...jau [lingering emotion]

〘 noun 〙 The feeling that lingers in the heart even after something has ended. Also, in the arts of language, the rich emotion that is not directly expressed but floats implicitly. In particular, it refers to the idea that has been respected in waka, renga, and haiku since the early Heian period. (2)「余情」を詩的表現機能として真に自覚して実践した藤原俊成は、韻律やイメージ効果による複雑微妙な情調世界を和歌表現の本質として、本歌取りや体言止めなどの技法によって構成される余情美の種々相を「艷」「あはれ」「幽玄」などと称した。
(3)俳諧においては、「和歌には余情といひ、俳諧にはにほひといふ」〔俳諧・十論為弁抄‐九〕とあるように、「にほひ」に繋がっていく。

よ‐じょう ‥ジャウ【余情】

〘名〙物事が終わったあとも、心から消えないその味わい。また、言語芸術などで、直接に表現されず、言外にただよう豊かな情趣。特に、平安初期以来、和歌・連歌・俳諧などで尊重される理念をいう。余韻。※人情本・閑情末摘花（1839‐41）一「外見も粧もなきにより、却てその情濃やかにて、かかる閑清の所こそ余情(ヨジャウ)も深ければ」[語誌]→「よせい（余情）」の語誌
