Also called Voyager. An unmanned probe used in the planetary exploration program by NASA in the United States. It passed close to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune with the aim of photographing and observing the planets, moons, and rings. Voyager 2 was launched in August 1977, followed by Voyager 1 in September of the same year. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 made their closest approach to Jupiter in March 1979 and July 1979, respectively, and Voyager 1 in November 1980 and Voyager 2 in August 1981, respectively, exploring the surface conditions and moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Voyager 2 explored Uranus in 1986, made its closest approach to Neptune in August 1989, and transmitted observation data of Neptune and its moon Triton, completing an observation flight of approximately 6.09 billion km over 12 years. Voyager-type artificial planets use a method called a swing-by, which uses the gravitational pull of multiple planets to change their orbit, eventually gaining the energy to leave the solar system and fly out into the galaxy.

〈ボイジャー〉とも。米国のNASA(ナサ)による惑星探査計画に用いられた無人探査機。木星，土星，天王星，海王星の近傍を通過して，惑星や衛星，環の写真撮影と観測を目的としたもの。1977年８月まず２号機を，同年９月１号機を打ち上げ，1979年３月１号機，同年７月２号機が木星に最接近，ついで1980年11月１号機，1981年８月２号機が土星に最接近し，それぞれ木星，土星の表面状態や衛星を探査した。２号機は1986年天王星を探査，1989年８月海王星に最接近，海王星とその衛星トリトンの観測データを送信し，12年間で約60億9000万kmに及ぶ観測飛行を果たした。ボエジャー型の人工惑星は複数の惑星の引力を利用して軌道を変更するスイングバイという方法を用いており，最終的には太陽系を離脱するエネルギーを得て銀河系へと飛行する。
