"Dancing New York" - Odorudainyuuk

...During wartime, musical films became a kind of ``necessity'' representing escapism, with stars such as Ginger Rogers, Rita Hayworth, Betty Hutton, Betty Grable, and Gloria Jean bringing a sense of hope to the gloomy lives of ordinary people with their dancing and singing, and easing the homesickness of lonely soldiers. This also gave rise to new stars known as ``pin-up girls,'' led by Betty Grable, who thrilled the GIs with her ``beautiful dancing legs.''
[From the postwar golden age to decline]
The late 1940s and early 1950s were the golden age of MGM musicals, and with producer Arthur Freed at the helm, the company had a wealth of talent under contract, including stars such as Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Gene Kelley (1912-96), Cyd Charisse, and Leslie Caron, scriptwriters such as the Betty Comden and Adolph Green duo, and directors such as Vincente Minnelli (1913-86) and Stanley Donen (1924- ).With these, the company produced many masterpieces, including The Little Mermaids (1944), On the Beach (1949), An American in Paris (1951), Singin' in the Rain (1951), The Band Wagon (1953), and It's Always Fine (1955). These memorable scenes were later included in a highlight collection on That's Entertainment (1974).
