Yura [town] - Yura

Japanese: 由良[町] - ゆら

A town in Hidaka County in western Wakayama Prefecture. The main settlement is a port town overlooking the Kii Channel, through which the Kisei Main Line passes. It is a natural harbor that was also mentioned in the Manyoshu. Pole-and-line fishing, aquaculture, and citrus cultivation are practiced. The town has a ria coastline, and Shirasaki at the western end is a scenic limestone site. At the foot of the mountain, where limestone was extracted for cement from the Meiji period until recent years, there is a large sandstone outcrop known as Monzen no Oiwa (a natural monument). Area: 30.94 ^km2 . Population: 6,508 (2010).

和歌山県西部，日高郡の町。主集落は紀伊水道に臨む港町で，紀勢本線が通じる。天然の良港で，万葉集にも詠まれた。一本釣漁業，養殖漁業を行い，柑橘(かんきつ)類を栽培。リアス式海岸を呈し，西端の白崎は石灰岩の景勝地。明治以降近年までセメント用に採取されていた石灰岩の山麓に〈門前の大岩〉（天然記念物）と称される砂岩の大露出がある。30.94km²。6508人（2010）。
