The smallest type of racing yacht. Originally meaning "small boat" in Hindi, it is rigged with a single mast in a cat rig. It is easy to maneuver and can achieve high speeds. The International Monotype 12-foot dinghy is a typical example. Small rowed boats and small lifeboats with sails that are loaded onto larger ships are also called dinghies. Today, lightweight, high-performance, fast racing dinghies dominate sport yachts, and there are hundreds of different sizes of dinghies in the world.

最も小型の競走用ヨット。元来ヒンディー語で〈小船〉のこと。帆装様式は１本マストのキャットリグ型。操縦は簡単で高速が得られる。国際モノタイプ12フィートディンギーが代表的なもの。なお大型船に積載する手漕(てこぎ)の小型通船，帆をもつ小型救命艇にもディンギーと呼ばれるものがある。今日では軽量で高性能の帆を備えたスピードのあるレーシング・ディンギーがスポーツ・ヨットの中心を占め，大きさによるクラス分けも世界で数百種を数える。
