Childhood Heart Theory (English)

Japanese: 童心説 - どうしんせつ（英語表記）tóng xīn shuō

The basic view of humanity of Li Zhi, a Chinese thinker of the Ming dynasty. Just as Mencius saw the true nature of humans manifested in the mind of a baby, the idea of seeing an ideal state in young children has existed since ancient times. As a counterargument to the current human condition, which is so tainted by worldly pollution and acquired habits that it is hopeless to save it, Li Zhi believed that the childlike mind, which is completely untainted by acquired worldly things, symbolizes the true nature of humans, and he emphasized that everyone should awaken to this childlike mind that they are inherently and completely endowed with in order to save themselves from the world of evil. 中国，明代の思想家，李贄（りし）の基本的人間観。孟子が赤子の心に人間の本来的姿の顕現をみたごとく，幼児に理想態をみる考えは古来あった。李贄は救いがたいほどに世俗的な汚濁，後天的な習気にまみれている現存在する人間に対する反措定として，後天的世俗的なものにいっさい汚染されていない童心こそが人間の本来性を象徴するものとし，万人が本来完全に具有するこの童心を覚醒して悪の世界から自己救済することを強調した。【吉田公平】
