Yumitorishiki - Yumitorishiki

Japanese:
Yumitorishiki - Yumitorishiki
In sumo performances, a bow is given as a prize to the winner of the last bout of the day, and a substitute makushita wrestler receives it, swings it vertically and horizontally on the ring, and performs shiko (sumo squats). It is said to have originated from a sumo festival in the Heian period, where a dancer appeared on the winner's side and took up a bow to perform a tachiai-mai dance, and the practice of giving bows to winning wrestlers began with Oda Nobunaga. In Edo kanjin sumo, the third winning wrestler in the final bout of the final day was given a bow for the ozeki rank, a string for the sekiwake rank, and a pair of arrows for the komusubi rank. It gradually became a ritual, and from the January 1952 tournament, the Yumitori Ceremony has been held every day (the winning sanyaku wrestler is only given a bow, string, and arrows on the final day).
