Ütükän yïš (mountain) (English spelling)

Japanese: ユチュケン[山]（英語表記）Ütükän yïš

The ancient name of a mountain in the southeastern Khangai Mountains of Mongolia, in the source area of the Orkhon and Selenga rivers. The Xiongnu's Toukanzan (according to the Book of Han) may also refer to this mountain. Turkic peoples such as the Turks and Uighurs, who were shamanistic believers, regarded this mountain as a sacred mountain to the gods and their ancestors, and placed their guardian deities on the fertile pastures surrounding it, making this area their political and economic center. The Ütükän inscription from the 8th century in Turkic inscriptions was transliterated, and in Chinese historical documents it was written as 'At Dujin Mountain' or 'Ude Mountain'.

モンゴルのハンガイ山脈南東部，オルホン･セレンガ両河の河源地帯にある山の古名。匈奴（きようど）の兜銜山（とうかんざん）(《漢書》による)もこれを指すか。突厥（とつくつ）やウイグルなど，シャマニズム信仰者としてのテュルク系諸民族が，天神や祖先の馮（よ）る聖山とみなし，さらにその周辺の豊かな牧地に牙帳をおいてこの一帯を政治･経済の中心とした。8世紀の突厥碑文のÜtükänが音写されて，漢文史料では〈於都斤山〉〈烏徳山〉などと記された。
