Yubari [city] - Yubari

Japanese: 夕張[市] - ゆうばり

A city in central Hokkaido. It was incorporated as a city in 1943. It occupies the southern part of the Ishikari coalfield and developed as a coal mining town. The city area spreads to the east into the Yubari Mountains. It is served by the Sekisho Line and the Doto Expressway, and shopping streets have developed along the river. In 1990, the last Minami-Oyubari coal mine was closed, and a coal history village with a coal museum was opened on the site of the mine. In agriculture, the city is promoting the development of Yubari melons and Chinese yams as specialty crops. In the summer of 2006, the financial crisis surfaced, and the city applied to become a financial reconstruction body (mutatis mutandis), as it was deemed difficult to rebuild on its own, and was approved in March 2007. The period for financial reconstruction is from fiscal 2006 to fiscal 2024, and the deficit to be eliminated is 35.3 billion yen. 763.07 ^km2 . 10,922 people (2010).

北海道中部の市。1943年市制。石狩炭田の南部を占め，炭鉱都市として発展した。市域は東方の夕張山地に広がる。石勝線，道東自動車道が通じ，川沿いに商店街が発達する。1990年，最後の南大夕張炭鉱も閉山，炭鉱跡地に石炭博物館を含む石炭の歴史村が開かれている。農業では夕張メロン，長芋の特産地化を推進している。2006年夏に財政危機が表面化し，自主再建は困難であるとして，（準用）財政再建団体の申請をし，2007年３月に認定された。財政再建の期間は2006年度を基準として2024年度まで，解消すべき赤字額は353億円。763.07km²。１万922人（2010）。
