…There are many kinds of animal acrobatics, but in 1889, it was Hagenbeck who succeeded in taming four lions by having the trainer ride a two-wheeled car around a ring surrounded by iron fences. His student, Alfred Court, performed with 18 kinds of animals, including lions, tigers, pumas, jaguars, hyenas, and brown bears, and called the act "Peace in the Jungle." Nowadays, there are performances featuring groups of 21 lions and 20 tigers, but the training of these wild animals is mostly done by Germans. …
